EVOLUTION – The first 50 years of the IOM Victorian Society
Join Peter Kelly, a founding member of the Isle of Man Victorian Society, for an illustrated talk exploring the Society’s first 50 years, in this Manx National Heritage and Victorian Society joint lecture.
Peter will look back at the Society’s formation and its development over the decades, including educational trips to the UK, visits around the Island and talks covering a wide range of Victorian and Edwardian topics.
Over the years, the Society has welcomed an impressive line-up of guest speakers, including Gavin Stamp, Lynn Pearson, Diane Haigh and Ruth Goodman. Their talks have explored subjects ranging from Victorian piers and Gertrude Jekyll to John Ruskin, Pre-Raphaelite paintings, Baillie Scott and First World War memorials.
Drawing on the Society’s rich history, Peter will reflect on its activities, the people who have contributed to its success and its continuing interest in Victorian and Edwardian heritage.
