This workshop invites children to participate in creating a range of Viking textiles within the unique setting of the House of Manannan Viking Galleries. Children will have an opportunity to learn a range of Viking weaving techniques using a variety of looms including wooden peg looms, lucets, Viking braid weaving and heddle loom weaving. Pupils will be invited to compare the way a modern heddle loom functions with traditional Viking looms and children will work to produce examples of weaving to take back to the classroom. The sessions will include teaching of history and archaeology on the Isle of Man together with cross curricular teaching of art and design technology.
