Leonard McCombe was one of the Isle of Man’s most successful photographers, forging a career with Life magazine and producing some of the 20th Century’s most iconic images. However his career began amid the chaos and destruction of the Second World War. To mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, Manx National Heritage has worked with Leonard’s family to curate an exhibition of his war photography; many of the images have never been seen before, and all are a testament to the reality of war.
