THE SOUND CAFE: INTEREST SOUGHT TO RUN MUCH-LOVED FACILITY

– Posted on Friday 24th December 2021

The opportunity to run one of the Isle of Man’s landmark catering establishments at one of its most scenic locations is now being advertised.

The Sound Cafe and Restaurant, situated in the south of the Island, is open to lease via a competitive process.

Manx National Heritage (MNH) is seeking proposals from suitably qualified and experienced individuals and businesses to grow and develop an attraction which is popular with visitors and locals alike.

Open all year, with the peak during the main tourist season of Easter to October, the Sound Cafe is the most popular café destination in the MNH portfolio.

Steve Blackford, Head of Properties for Manx National Heritage, said:
‘As an organisation, it is standard practice for us to run a competitive process for our catering services at fixed periods. We enjoy working with dedicated and creative caterers to deliver fresh, quality food that showcase seasonal Manx produce and provide a warm and friendly welcome all year round for our many visitors from near and far.

‘Indeed, our catering contracts offer the opportunity to develop the hospitality offering at some of the Isle of Man’s special historic sites and scenic locations.

‘Manx National Heritage provides creative collaboration for what is a unique prospect for an enthusiastic and experienced caterer with a successful track record to continue to grow an already well-established hospitality outlet. Across our sites, we aim to work with catering partners who are keen to develop sales, are passionate about customer service and attention to detail and also have a committed policy of reducing environmental impact and inspiring sustainable living.’

In addition to The Sound, the Cregneash Café (Creg y Shee) which operates during the visitor season, is included as part of this opportunity.

The Sound provides 100 covers inside and 48 outside, whilst Creg y Shee provides 35 inside and 20 outside.

Steve added:
‘With amazing views across the Sound all-year round, this is a fantastic opportunity for a catering business to welcome customers by providing a quality menu and experience at two unique environments in the south of the Island.’

Invitations to lease the buildings are for an initial period of five years with a possible five-year extension, subject to contract.
