Climbers are reminded that the Chasms and Sugarloaf cliffs are home to many nesting birds in the spring and summer.
Climber’s attention is drawn to the provisions of the 1990 Wildlife Act which makes it an offence if any person intentionally or recklessly:
(a) disturbs any wild bird included in Schedule 1 while it is building a nest or is in, on or near a nest containing eggs or young; or
(b) disturbs any nest or egg of such a bird; or
(c) disturbs dependent young of such a bird
In order to protect nesting birds from disturbance, the closed periods for climbing are shown in the Chasms and Sugar loaf Climbing Restrictions 2022
