Shakespeare Returns to Peel Castle with a Powerful Open-Air Production of Macbeth

– Posted on Thursday 7th May 2026

Manx National Heritage is delighted to announce the return of open-air Shakespeare to the Isle of Man this summer, as TNT Theatre Britain and the American Drama Group Europe bring a gripping production of Macbeth to two of the Island’s most atmospheric heritage sites.

The headline performance takes place on Saturday 25 July 2026 at Peel Castle, beginning at 6pm with doors opening at 4.30pm, inviting audiences to soak up the dramatic surroundings before the action unfolds.

A special matinee performance will also take place at Rushen Abbey on Sunday 26 July 2026 at 2pm, offering another opportunity to experience the production in a stunning historic setting.

Set within the towering walls of Peel Castle, Macbeth promises a theatrical experience unlike any other. As dusk falls and the sea crashes against the rocks below, Shakespeare’s dark and devastating tragedy will come vividly to life in a setting that mirrors the intensity of the play.

Audiences will be transported into a world where prophecy rides on the wind and ambition leads to bloodshed. From the eerie fore-tellings of the witches to the psychological unravelling of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, this production delivers thunderous drama, supernatural tension and some of Shakespeare’s most powerful language.

The performance marks a welcome return for TNT Theatre Britain and the American Drama Group Europe, whose dynamic and accessible productions have captivated audiences worldwide. Their interpretation of Macbeth is set to be both bold and atmospheric, making full use of the Island’s unique historic environments to heighten the sense of danger, ambition and fate at the heart of the story.

Visitors to the performances are encouraged to bring a blanket or low-backed chair and settle in for an evening of open-air theatre beneath the Manx sky. Picnics welcome.  Whether attending the evening performance at Peel or the matinee at Rushen Abbey, audiences can expect a spellbinding summer night out.

Tickets are priced at £28 for adults, with concessions from £16.80 for children and students,  available now at manxnationalheritage.im/shop

With limited availability expected, early booking is strongly advised.  Fair is foul, and foul is fair… dare you enter?
