The largest Heritage event in the Isle of Man’s calendar returns for its twelfth year next month, when Heritage Open Days 2021 takes place over two consecutive weekends; Friday 1 October to Sunday 3 October and Friday 8 October to Sunday 10 October 2021.
The festival is a huge celebration of the abundant heritage and culture on the Isle of Man – and it’s all FREE to enjoy. This year the programme features a mix of new places and spaces opening their doors along with the return of firm favourites from previous years. 2021 highlights include a rare glimpse inside the former Castletown residence of Captain Quilliam, a guided stroll around the pubs on Douglas Quay and a guided tour of Peel Castle with a difference; hearing about the people who lived their lives within its ancient walls. It’s a great opportunity to discover hidden spots, try out new experiences and celebrate the island’s outstanding heritage.
Funded and co-ordinated by Manx National Heritage the registered charity responsible for the Isle of Man’s natural and cultural heritage, the festival is delivered by a host of individuals and volunteers from across the heritage sector who collectively make this unique heritage festival possible.
Helen Ashcroft, Public Engagement Manager for Manx National Heritage said:
“The knowledge and enthusiasm of the remarkable hosts and guides who give up their time for free to inspire, educate and highlight the diverse history, culture and architecture of the Isle of Man is tremendous and we thank them all for their support and involvement”.
