The Library and Archives team at Manx National Heritage is delighted to be involved in the ‘Explore your Archive’ campaign which takes place throughout the UK and Ireland from 18 to 26 November. The campaign highlights the unique potential of archives to excite people, bring communities together and tell amazing stories.
The Manx Museum Library and Archive will be hosting a series of free events across the week, where the team will inspire the public to go beyond a Google search and explore the wealth of material available for research and perusal.
The theme for the sessions is Mann on the High Seas, where visitors will be able to get up close to items with a nautical flavour, including historic logbooks, Isle of Man Steam Packet Company ledgers, customs records, charts and prints.
Two sessions will take place on Tuesday 21 November and one session on Saturday 25 November. Booking is via Eventbrite , or call in to the Library and speak to a staff member to secure your place.
The team will also be taking over MNH’s social media for the week, providing the audience with a glimpse of some of the unseen items and images held in our archives.
Sarah Christian, Library and Archive Assistant at Manx National Heritage adds;
“The library already sees many local people and visitors using our archives to explore the history of the Island. By taking part in this initiative, we hope to encourage more people to visit and be inspired by the stories our archives hold. The sessions will be interactive with the chance for visitors to use the records themselves as well as the opportunity to chat informally with the team. It’s great to be involved with outreach events of this kind.”
Manx Museum Library and Archive is open to the public Wednesdays to Saturdays, 10am to 5pm.
