Families looking for fun over the Easter holidays are being invited to explore the Island’s historic sites with a series of special events hosted by Manx National Heritage.
From an Easter egg hunt in the grounds of Peel Castle to traditional egg rolling at Cregneash, there are plenty of opportunities for children and adults alike to get outdoors, discover the Island’s heritage and celebrate Easter together.
One of the highlights of the programme is The Great Castle Egg Hunt at Peel Castle on 4 and 5 April. Families can explore the historic grounds while searching for 20 hidden eggs, with a chocolate treat waiting for those who find them all. The activity is designed as a fun adventure for children and families to enjoy together.
Creative workshops for children, including Little Art Explorers Craft Sessions take place every Monday at the House of Manannan, and Springtime Bonnet Making at The Grove Museum on 4 April, where young visitors can design and decorate their own traditional Easter bonnet using colourful materials and embellishments and the opportunity to design your own tote bag in ‘Art to Go’ on 9 April. Another much-loved tradition returns on 6 April with Egg Rolling at Cregneash. Visitors can decorate their eggs, take part in egg-rolling races for all ages and join an Easter egg hunt on the village green, with prizes for the best decorated eggs and top egg hunters.
The Corrib Singers a male voice choir from Galway will perform at the Old Grammar School on 7 April and at the Great Laxey Wheel on 9 April,Castle, bringing musical entertainment to the Manx National Heritage sites during their Easter tour of the Isle of Man as part of a cultural exchange between Celtic nations.
Little Screen Club returns to the Manx Museum on 8 April, with a screening or Minecraft the Movie and Zootropolis 2 on 15 April. There’s also a Magnetic Mania Workshop at Castle Rushen on 17 April and Lego Imagination Club at Rushen Abbey on 17 April. Pre-booking required.
On 18 April, ‘Slime Lab’ takes place at Castle Rushen offering the opportunity to nurture early STEM skills and scientific thinking amongst young visitors. All materials are provided. Be ready to get messy and wear clothes you don’t mind getting sticky or glittery! Pre-booking required.
