Popular family-friendly exhibition extended at the House of Manannan

– Posted on Tuesday 5th May 2026

Manx National Heritage is delighted to announce that the hugely popular Art Adventures for Beginners exhibition at the House of Manannan in Peel has been extended and will now run until Sunday 7 June 2026.

Originally scheduled to close in May, the extension follows an enthusiastic response from visitors of all ages, with families, schools and art lovers embracing the exhibition’s playful and accessible approach to modern and contemporary art.

Created in partnership with the Isle of Man Arts Council, Art Adventures for Beginners invites visitors to explore a vibrant world of colour, creativity and curiosity. Designed to break down barriers often associated with art, the exhibition encourages children and adults alike to get hands-on, ask questions and discover what art means to them in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Featuring more than 40 works from the Isle of Man Arts Council’s Modern and Contemporary Loan Collection, the exhibition includes pieces by internationally recognised artists alongside work by Manx creatives. Through interactive displays, playful prompts and surprising visual elements, visitors are encouraged to look, imagine and even create their own artistic responses.

Katie King, Curator for Art and Social History at Manx National Heritage, said:

“Art Adventures for Beginners has proven incredibly popular with visitors of all ages. We’re thrilled to be able to extend the exhibition and give even more people the opportunity to experience this fun, engaging and inspiring introduction to art”.

Suzanne Walker, Arts Project Co-ordinator for the Isle of Man Arts Council, added:

“The exhibition is all about discovering that there’s no right or wrong way to enjoy art. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or coming back for another look, there’s always something new to see and experience, whether this be through the exhibition itself or the popular family friendly art activities which take place in the gallery each week”.

Open daily from 9.30am to 4.30pm, admission to the exhibition is free, with donations welcome.

Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the extended run and enjoy a colourful, creative free day out at one of the Island’s most popular family attractions. For more information, visit manxnationalheritage.im
