The Isle of Man has some of the most splendid and famous of the megalithic monuments which are the greatest enduring achievements of Europe’s first farmers, those of the New Stone Age.
This talk will set them in the context of what is now thought and known about these monuments in Western Europe as a whole, and in the British Isles and the Irish Sea province – at the centre of which lies the Isle of Man. It will show what was special about Neolithic Isle of Man, and what it had in common with other lands; what we can say with certainty about these wonderful constructions and what remains mysterious.
