More fascinating footage from the film archive of the Isle of Man Department of Tourism. Pride of place goes to the earliest known film made in 1920. This rare film reveals an island swarming with tourists, still with its cable cars in Victoria Street and Cunningham’s Young Men’s Holiday Camp. Other films include 1958 Scooter Rally and Isle of Beauty – filmed in 1949 which captures a rural way of life long since vanished. An extract from the 1969 film Magic Memories features the Summerland Complex under construction and Fable Island made in 1973 attempts to show the island as a place of myth and legend. The six extracts are once again introduced by Terry Cringle.
