Manx National Heritage, the charity responsible for the care and promotion of the Isle of Man’s natural and cultural heritage, has announced that the Grove Museum in Ramsey, will reopen from Thursday 25 June from 11am to 3pm.
The Grove is the fourth Manx National Heritage attraction to reopen in the last two weeks, joining Peel Castle, Rushen Abbey and Laxey Wheel.
Situated on the Andreas Road in Ramsey, The Grove tells the story of the Gibb family and their Victorian summer retreat, which later became their family home. Beautifully preserved, a visit to the house and country gardens provides a taste of life in the Victorian and Edwardian eras.
Gaynor Haxby, Head of Public Services for Manx National Heritage said:
“Although the Grove is one of our less well known sites it always delivers on visitor experience, with the visitor satisfaction rating the highest of any of our sites at 94%, it is a hidden gem well worth discovering”.
Conservation work on the house and gardens recommenced in recent weeks. The gardens are being developed with the help of a small, dedicated team of volunteers. The planting schemes are inspired by historic photographs and paintings of the Grove. Inside the house, work has recently been completed on the child’s bedroom, where a traditional sliding sash window has been replaced.
Additional COVID-19 safety measures will be in place to protect staff and visitors including hand sanitisers, PPE for staff, Perspex screens at admission points and contactless/card payments preferred to cash. Toilets will be open to the public with visitors asked to wipe down surfaces before and after use, with anti-bacterial wipes provided. Some restrictions will be in place on some of the displays and the tearoom will be closed.
The Grove will be open from Thursday to Sunday from 11am to 3pm.
Members, Annual Pass holders, children and students receive free entry to MNH sites. Single Adult Admission to the Grove is £6 per person or an Annual Pass can be purchased for £25 and will remain valid until the end of the 2021 Season on 30/10/2021 enabling visitors to enjoy all of the MNH sites when they re-open without further charge for the rest of this year and all of next Season.
