This monument raised by affection/is sacred to the memory of/J.H.F SPENCER., M.D/who departed this life at Douglas/Nov. 7th 1850 aged 37 years/ a beloved physician and friend/ unwearied in his attention to the poor/ whose interests lay near his heart/ he was deeply regretted by them/ and highly esteemed by all for his/ professional skill and personal kindness/ after a brief and useful life he fell/asleep in Jsues, confiding in his grief/ and saying with dying breath/ “Jesus is mine and I am His/ nothing in my hand I bring/ simply to the cross I cling”/ “I know that He shall arise again in/ the resurrection of the last day/ this is a faithful saying and worthy/ of all acceptation that Christ/ came into the world to save sinners”
